Very Disappointing

We all know that when it comes to issues of racism Al Sharpton is like the boy who cried wolf, but in this case I understand his point. I feel like this cartoon is making a direct hit towards Obama. The Post and its supporters are saying that they are just trying to portray politicians as a bunch of monkeys, but the caption “They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill” is truly gearing this towards our president. If we go back into history and look at the Jim Crow era, we can clearly see that the media used to depict African Americans as animals. Americans not only did this to African Americans, they also used to belittle Asian Americans by calling them dog eaters and also referring to them as monkeys. This cartoon just shows how ignorant some Americans are towards race. It’s moments like this that make me feel ashamed of being an American.
