I understand that we can’t leave our past behind us… our past will follow us all throughout life, just like our shadows. But if we keep on trying to relive gloomy memories, how can we find happiness in the present and the future? Yes, the past is the foundation of the present and if we forget our past, we will not learn from our mistakes. But after obtaining wisdom from our past mishaps, why can’t we just move on and treat that unwise or unfortunate act as just a pebble on the road. Is it wise to allow a mere pebble to bring us to greater obstacles for the future? Wouldn’t you just want to have these small pebbles that you’ve already overcome, or would you rather have large boulders that make it difficult for you to move on?
People need to realize that bad events from the past are now just thoughts. Stop taking these past memories and living them out in the present. Don’t argue about things that already happened and can’t be changed. Don’t ruin present moments because of these unpleasant recollections. Just learn, move on, and be happy. Don’t miss the good of the present by being busy with past memories.
My new mindset…
“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” - Siddhartha Gautama

Why do we dwell in the past, when the past is merely a thought?
